Mystery of Sound

The Mystery of Sound

My healing experiences through sound and the power of sacred vibration.

I spent this past weekend in a super trippy and deeply healing experience through sound. My normal vice being loud sweaty concerts where I get to dance my ass off as I am washed over with music. No, this was a little different.

I’ve always been drawn toward sound and the effect it has on the body. As I dive into what I like to call the “sensual arts”, exploring sound only seemed like the next step. I’ve had many deeply emotional and transformational experiences with sound. Since I was a little girl I can remember singing my heart out in chorus at school, harmonizing with my best friend or randomly busting out an opera tone at home. My mother likes to remind me of my impromptu singing as a child (hi mom!) I wanted to be a singer when I grew up…and here I thought that dream was long gone.

This first time I felt a deep emotional response to sound was on my wedding day. As the church singer belted ‘Ave Maria’ I was met with an uncontrollable wave of tears. Again, some years later I attended a crystal healing workshop with Chakrubs founder (also a very talented musician), Vanessa Cuccia. To close the workshop she began to sing. No words or specific song, just pure intuitive sound channeled for the collective group. I immediately started crying. And not just a single little tear, it was an ocean of sobbing—a deep seated release that felt so powerful to my system.

My voice and its warm nurturing tone has been the number one consistent appreciation feedback in my coaching certification. And, just a few months ago, I had a psychic reading with a friend and he said, “I am being told that
communication and putting yourself into the phones of people – which means like people will be listening to your voice as they are on their morning commute.” I have been receiving signs so frequently I couldn’t ignore it anymore.

“The magic of ‘Musical Medicine’ will come into its own. The application of such healing potencies will not be limited just to [one’s] body & mind. It will be an agency for building & healing [their] soul as well.”

I was attempting to explain my fascination with sound to a friend and he said, “because it’s straight from source.” So matter of fact, I thought—he’s exactly right. This exact thought was affirmed to me this weekend in a Holographic Sound Healing training that blew my mind and body into other dimensions.

An ancient phrase from the Vedas says: “Nada Brahmin”, meaning the “The World is Sound”. Sound is the seed of creation. Everything on this Earth and beyond has a frequency. Our bodies, each organ, each cell; has a specific sound vibration, of course not heard by the human ear. It only makes sense that our mind, body and soul be affected so deeply by the universal language. Newer research even suggests that sound has the power to heal the physical body by shifting the frequency back to a balanced state.

I was intuitively drawn toward Holographic Sound Healing and knew I needed to take the next available training. The concepts are so esoteric I won’t even try to attempt an explanation, but it definitely took me on a trip. I traveled to other countries, other dimensions, hidden ancient Priestess temples made of obsidian (yup). Oh yea, and I definitely had an orgasm during a practice called rejuvenation of the Ka (Pranic) body. And it also gave me one of the greatest gifts of all: the confidence to use my voice.

In embodiment practices I consistently come up against a block in my throat. A familiar stuckness that keeps me from speaking my truth, talking to groups, and honoring the vital need to express. Our throat chakra is the energetic center connected to communication and from what I can intuit; a collective wound, especially for womxn. Lifetimes of having to suppress our voice has not only an individual effect, but an ancestral one passed down through generations.

Ever since I can remember, singing solo in front of a group or face to face with one person, was absolutely terrifying. I have major stage fright and anxiety around being heard in this way. I knew by putting myself in a situation to directly express to another person in the training would help break down that block. As I sat in space with complete strangers (now new friends!) I was faced with using my voice intuitively.

In the training, we are taught to channel directly from Source (Spirit, God, Universe, etc). It’s not a performance, nor needs to be technically perfect, and is always with pure loving intention to heal for the greater good of all.

This workshop gave me a sense of reassurance that my voice is powerful and much needed in the world. My highest self knows there is something very special here. Sound has been used for thousands and thousands of years in some of the oldest cultures and traditions known to humans (and non-humans) through music, religious gathering, ceremonial drumming, voice toning, mantras and beyond. I am a true advocate for ancestral wisdom and sound feels the purest and oldest of them all.

I guess my dreams of a singer may well come true after all.
